Telling about Telluride

Before we can talk about Telluride, a quick recap of the summer and fall are in order. After our return from Bend, Parker took the written test for his driving permit. His poker face made Jay a little nervous as he waited in the lobby, but given the amount of time that it took, it soon became obvious that Parker had passed. To get some practice in, Parker drove Jay up to Mt. Airy Parker’s driving has been an experience for us all. We are finally becoming comfortable being passengers with him behind the wheel.

The rest of the summer included a lot of fishing. Jay spent a lot of time fishing on the Doe River. Parker enjoyed going out to Hooker’s Carp Pond to fish with his friend Dustin.

For Kristie’s birthday, Jay took her Pilot Mountain for dinner at JOLO Winery.

Ansel spent two weeks at Camp Kanata and enjoyed seeing all of her old friends that she has camped with through the years.

School started. Ansel is at Lewisville Middle School and Parker is at West Forsyth High School. Big changes were in store for Jay as he made the transition to Mount Tabor High School. Ansel enjoyed running cross-country again this year.

Kristie’s cousin Lance and his family met us at Roan Mountain and we had a fun day out on Watauga Lake.

One big project that we have been overseeing is the remodeling of the basement in Roan Mountain. We are in the process of turning it into a teenager’s lair.

For our annual Christmas ski trip, we headed out to Telluride, CO. We arrived safely. Our luggage did not. We checked in to the Etta Place Too, which thankfully, had enough room for us to spread out. We read, put together puzzles, watched TV (Kristie was binge watching The Crown), and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited, hoping for any information about our five bags. ONE bag did finally arrive. The others were scattered in either Dallas or Los Angeles.

We enjoyed walking around Telluride. Kristie and Jay went for a hike on the Bear Creek Trail. We enjoyed meals at High Pie Pizzeria & Taproom and Wood Ear.

After four days, everything but our helmets had arrived. We decided to get rentals and head out on the slopes. It was good to finally be out there. Ansel and Parker picked up where they left off. Jay, having recently switched to skiing (he felt he had gotten too old to ride a snowboard), was too slow according to Ansel.

On the fifth day, our final bags arrived and we were able to get three more great days of skiing in.
